Russian positioning satellite GLONASS-M was successfully launched on February 7

The Russian positioning satellite GLONASS-M was launched on a Soyuz rocket at 3:31 on February 7 local time (9:21 JST) from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia.

This launch is to maintain the 24-satellite GLONASS satellite positioning system. GLONASS is currently a 27-satellite constellation with 23 satellites under operation and four undergoing flight tests and operational checks. Therefore, it lacked one operational satellite. The launched satellite was the first of nine stocked by Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev, the manufacturer.
