[Movie] Benefits of QZSS: Stable positioning
Explains how multipath errors and fluctuating positioning results caused by varied numbers of satellites are reduced, allowing for stable positioning services even in locations such as urban areas and mountainous regions.
[Benefits of QZSS: Stable positioning]
QZSS significantly improves the accuracy and stability of GPS.
Satellite positioning accuracy is greatly impacted by the number of satellites from which satellite signals can be received.
With GPS satellites alone, there are often six or fewer satellites from which signals can be received. When one of these satellites comes in and out of visibility, positioning results vary greatly.
[Greatly improves GPS accuracy and stability]
[Received from six satellites > Received from five satellites > Received from eight satellites]
[Degree of variability: 1/6]
[Varies greatly according to the number of satellites from which satellite signals can be received]
However, in an environment in which signals can be received from multiple satellites, positioning results are not greatly affected by the changing number of satellites, which allows for stable positioning.
[Degree of variability: 1/9]
QZSS transmits the same satellite signals as GPS, effectively increasing the number of GPS satellites.
One QZO satellite can be seen from Japan for 16 hours, so with four QZS, signals can be constantly received from three QZS.
[Transmits the same satellite signals as GPS]
[Satellite signals: L1, L2, L5]
[Constantly received from three satellites]
For example, if signals can be received from six GPS satellites, together with QZS it is like signals can be received from nine GPS satellites.
[Same as having nine GPS satellites]
This enables stable positioning. In addition, the number of satellites near the zenith is increased by QZSS. This effect reduces errors caused by satellite signal reflection off buildings or mountains, and helps improve positioning accuracy.
[Few errors caused by reflection]
QZSS will make it possible to use stable positioning information services at any time and in any location.
